The Princess of Wales, Diana, died on 31 August 1997, Sunday due to the injuries sustained in a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, France. Dodi Fayed, her companion and Henri Paul, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140 were declared dead at the scene of the accident. Trevor Rees-Jones, Fayed’s bodyguard only survived and it was in year 1999 that the eighteen-month French judicial investigation resolved the incident with the fact that Paul was the reason for the accident. He lost control over the car due to driving at high speed and was under the sway of antidepressants. Dodi’s father later on claimed that the accident was spurious. He said that this was part of a scheme planned to kill Diana and Dodi.
